MEP to meet Agriculture Minister

Jim Allister MEP has welcomed the news that he is going to meet the Agricultural Minister, Mr Ian Pearson.

 

Commenting on the news of the meeting Mr Allister said, “This is just the latest of a series of meetings that I am having with key players within the agricultural sector.”

 

At the meeting Mr Allister hopes to discuss a series of European issues and how they impact on the agricultural industry within Northern Ireland.  “There are a series of European issues which I hope to discuss with the Minister including the implementation of CAP reform, the introduction of the Nitrates Directive and the extension of Rural Development funds beyond 2006.  These are all issues which will have a large impact on farmers within Northern Ireland,” commented Mr Allister.

 

At the meeting Mr Allister will also be discussing a range of issues currently affecting the agriculture industry including the NIPSA strike, the proposed cuts in OTMS rates and the problems with the 5% minimum heifer rule in last years Suckler Cow Premium scheme.
