Kilcooley Community - An Example to us all, says Jim Allister

07 April 2009

The self reliance of the people of Kilcooley is an example to us all, said Jim Allister MEP.

Speaking to the Bangor Spectator, Mr Allister said he was very impressed with what he had seen on his visit there this week.

"The Kilcooley Community Forum is doing excellent work", said Mr Allister.

"In times of great adversity its people have drawn together to overcome local issues.

"They were deserving of public recognition and of funds to help their initiatives.

"But by their own work they have saved government considerable chunks of money.

"The people of Kilcooley have drawn together in areas where there are degrees of deprivation.

"I'm also impressed with their anti crime campaign and the work being done by the Kilcooley womens sector.

"Communities that like that that don't get the funding and are self reliant, so well done to everyone involved."
