The Cork convictions arising from Northern Bank robbery

27 March 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC MEP:-

“I greatly welcome the convictions in Cork arising out of the IRA Northern Bank Robbery.

Three questions now arise:
1. Where is the rest of the money stolen by the IRA?
2. Will Sinn Fein, at last, come clean and admit their IRA did indeed rob the Northern Bank, or will mendacity still rule? It is outrageous that we have in government a Party and Ministers, who demand policing and justice powers but continue to deny their IRA robbed the bank. I trust the media will put Sinn Fein under renewed pressure on this important issue.
3. Will the DUP continue to acquiesce in continued Sinn Fein dishonesty, despite earlier assurances that these ill-gotten gains had to be returned?

Today’s convictions place an uncomfortable spotlight back on the ruling parties at Stormont, because it is a reminder that we are ruled by the friends of terrorists and robbers and those prepared to excuse them and treat them as statesmen.”
