Allister reponds to Gordon Brown's speech in Strasbourg

24 March 2009

Responding to Gordon Brown's speech in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Traditional Unionist MEP said he had dodged most of the uncomfortable realities, including that he had squandered our money in the good times and bequeathed every taxpaying family a monstrous legacy of national debt.

"As for more EU regulation being the answer, preserves us", said the Ulster MEP. "If EU Regulation is the answer, then it must be a very bizarre question. On the contrary re-asserting and maximising national control of our own national economic destiny is the way forward."

"On the wider political issues, I thoroughly endorse the spot on criticism of the UKIP Leader Nigel Farage MEP that for the Prime Minister to come to Strasbourg talking about European values of democracy, when he had welched on the Government's promise of a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, was gross hypocrisy.

If today war a portent of what the G20 Summit will produce, then expectations should not be high."
