Get in the SAS - Allister

Statement by Traditional Unionist Voice Leader Jim Allister MEP on the Craigavon murder of a policeman:-
"Another brutal murder by seasoned IRA killers! However, I will not pretend surprise. Horror, yes, but not surprise. Republicans know that tyragically violence pays. How else did we get 3 convicted terrorists as Government Ministers?
Having turned our police into a mere service and deliberately destroyed Special Branch, all at republican behest, we are now ill-equipped to face the harvest of what has been sowed. Our present reduced and denuded police cannot cope alone with active republican terrorism. Thus, now is the time to bring in the SAS, before it gets out of hand.
Sadly, I fear, the political expediency of not offending IRA/Sinn Fein sensitivities will fetter such an essential response and, therefore, more brave policemen and soldiers will be sacrificed.
The lesson of 40 years ago needs to be learned. If you don't crush republican terrorism when it first raises its ugly head, then it will fester and grow.
Of course, IRA/Sinn Fein could solve this problem, if it wanted. Every one of these seasoned killers was trained by the Provos. They know every terrorist they trained and they know who is no longer officially with them. So, they know who is doing this. Alas, the fraternity of the republican brotherhood and code means they're prepared to see soldiers and policemen die.
It's time those Unionists at Stormont cocooned in the false belief that IRA/Sinn Fein is really on their side, woke up and faced reality."
