Allister challenges DUP to cut North/South expenditure

05 March 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister MEP

“Having last year exposed the failure of  DUP Ministers at DFP to rein in runaway expenditure by the North/South Bodies, I hope that the present Business Plans for 2009 from these same bodies will not be rubber-stamped this time. At least out of embarrassment over their failure to date, since May 07, to trim one penny from north/south expenditure, I trust the opportunity will be taken to at least impose strict efficiency saving requirements, from which hitherto the North/South Bodies have been exempt, while our local departments have had to make such cuts.

If DFP is forced into action on this front, then it will be another illustration of the restraining impact TUV is having on full implementation of Belfast Agreement schemes.”
