Allister calls for end to procrastination by Executive
11 February 2009
Statement by TUV MEP Jim Allister:
"As I have been saying for sometime the EU Commission is willing to put up 50% of a compensation package arising out of the dioxin losses, but the Stormont Executive has to stump up the other 50%. This is standard EU procedure and was explained today to the Executive delegation.
So the ball is back in Stormont's court. I call on them to stop playing around with this issue and trying to short-change the farmers and processors affected, through no fault of their own. Suggesting a 25% compensation package is unacceptable penny-pinching. 100% losses require 100% help.
Thus, my message to the Executive is get on with it and show you really do care about the agri-food sector."
