McGuinness misusing Brussels visit for republican propaganda offensive

10 February 2009

Statement by TUV MEP Jim Allister

"I deplore the fact that the Joint First Minister McGuinness, on an occasion when he is visiting Brussels today, at public expense, supposedly to lobby with his partner, Peter Robinson, on agricultural issues, is devoting his afternoon to a Sinn Fein propaganda offensive in the European Parliament.

In an event hosted by Sinn Fein he is due to speak on the IRA mantra of "Build a lasting peace - Conflict resolution in Ireland".

At a time of ever-deepening economic crisis and a distinct deficit in NI Executive activity in Brussels, it is shameful that McGuinness is choosing to devote his time here in Brussels to party political activity, rather than putting in a full day's work on behalf of the country over which he jointly presides."
