Allister travels to Auschwitz

26 January 2009

TUV Leader Jim Allister MEP, who in the recent Middle East conflict strongly defended Israel in the European Parliament, has accepted an invitation to attend the European Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Auschwitz on 27th January 2009.

He will be part of a joint mission of Members of the European Parliament, EU National Parliaments and the Knesset.

Speaking as he left for Auschwitz Jim Allister said:-

“Just as the innocent victims of terrorism must never be forgotten in Northern Ireland, nor equated to the perpetrators of terror, so it is right and necessary to ever remember and mark by special events, each year, the attempted extermination of the Jewish people, which was the Holocaust.

“The sheer horror of Auschwitz is a constant reminder of the depravity of which man is capable and of the price paid by past generations of Jews and others.

“By attending this ceremony, as an MEP representing all of Northern Ireland, I carry the message, strengthened by our own experience, that it is the duty of all to ensure that such never happens again. Hence, the necessity and justice of having the state of Israel and its right to live free from the constant terrorist attacks of Hamas.”
