Allister urges DARD 'speed up' wet weather payments

26 January 2009

Jim Allister MEP has written to DARD, urging that ‘hardship’ payments earmarked for farmers suffering losses as a result of August’s flash floods be made without further delay.

Jim Allister MEP commented,
“Farmers are wondering why it is taking so long for DARD to make these long awaited payments. Moreover, there is still much confusion as to who will be eligible to receive a payment. In light of the backlash to the Executive’s suggestion that only potato farmers would be ‘compensated’, clarification is needed as to which sectors will be eligible to receive a share of these funds.”

“I have already expressed my disappointment at the inadequacy of the Executive’s funding package to cover all losses suffered by farmers during the wet weather in August. It is important that payments are made as a matter of urgency”.
