McAliskey appointment appalling

05 January 2009

Statement by Traditional Unionist MEP Jim Allister:

"I am appalled to note that Deirdre McAliskey has been appointed "Education Officer" of the NI Human Rights Commission.  As someone who has boasted of carrying the coffin of one of the most vile terrorists of all time, McGlinchey, this appointment is wholly ill-advised and confirms what most Unionists already believe about the Human Rights Commission and its incapacity to make balanced and impartial decisions.

The Human Rights Commission, by design, is set on a course to intensify its alienation from the majority community. Under Monica McWilliams it has set itself on a leftist/republican course to see through its wholly anti-unionist agenda, as epitomised by its politically driven proposal for a Bill of Rights, which will divorce Northern Ireland from its UK nexus."
