Republic’s voters face coercion - Allister

11 December 2008

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

“As I have long forecast, the voters of the Republic of Ireland are to be bullied by a consortium of their own government and the EU to reverse their democratic rejection of the Lisbon Treaty. It is entirely a matter for the voters of the Republic as to how they respond to such coercion, but it is clear that not one word of substance of the Treaty will be altered.

What might appear in “declarations” to accompany the Treaty will be of no binding legal force and will be easily swept aside by the Euro-fanatical Court of Justice in Luxembourg. The figleaf of a Commissioner for every country, possibly in the Accession Treaty for Croatia, will not dilute the important issues of superstatehood structures for the EU and ever-diminishing national control, through increased majority voting in decision making.”
