Allister raises latest auction results with Agriculture Commissioner

20 November 2008

In response to another very poor milk auction, Jim Allister MEP has raised the plight of the industry with the European Agriculture Commissioner’s office.

The MEP said,
“This latest auction result averaging just 17.30 pence per litre, compared with 29.58p this time last year, confirms just how dire trading conditions are. I have made it my business to notify the Commission of today’s auction result, which has followed last month’s meltdown.”

“Naturally, the prices producers are set to receive on the back of these consecutive auctions will be far from sustainable, reinforcing the need for the immediate re-introduction by the Commission of market support instruments, in particular export refunds.”
