Another IMC whitewash

10 November 2008

Responding to the publication of today’s IMC report Traditional Unionist Voice leader Jim Allister said:

“Today’s IMC report continues the trend set in previous publications from that body in  turning a blind eye to activities of Sinn Fein’s military wing. How can they be described as following an “exclusively political path” when Provisional IRA Semtex  is employed in an attack on police officers?

“And where is the commentary on the interesting incident back in September where three persons with IRA links appeared in court charged with kidnapping, one of whom led the Easter Sunday Sinn Fein parade from North Belfast this year? At the time, I called on the IMC to fully investigate the matter. Yet it doesn’t even merit a mention.

“No mention either of the fact that Interpol have been on the track of ETA terrorist José Ignacio De Juana Chaos, who was imprisoned for 25 killings, and that he is believed to be hiding out with IRA/Sinn Fein activists in Belfast or Dublin, further shatters the carefully crafted illusion that Sinn Fein has put its terrorist links behind it.

“Yet even this whitewash does not exonerate the Provos entirely. The IMC concede that IRA members have been involved in violence and criminality and comments on a “serious incident” in May which it links to the PIRA.

“It is disappointing but not surprising that the report’s authors seem, yet again, to have put political concerns above exposing the truth.”
