Don’t bow to Sinn Fein bully boy tactics

28 October 2008

Responding to this morning’s Sinn Fein/IRA press conference Jim Allister said:

“How dare Bairbre Brown and Jennifer McCann call on the MOD to call off the homecoming parade.

“Sinn Fein regularly organizes demonstrations which celebrate the murderous exploits of the IRA and yet claim that a march honouring men and women who have fought for freedom is offensive. The Provisional movement may regard this parade as unnecessary but this only displays their inability to recognize real heroism in a fight for liberty and justice. In Sinn Fein/IRA’s perverted view of the world the man in the balaclava who shot an off duty police officer or the individuals who planted a bomb in a fish and chip shop did more for freedom than those who dressed in uniform and bravely faced insurgents in the field of battle.

“There should be no question of the Ministry of Defence and the Northern Ireland Office bowing to these bully boy tactics. The service personnel of Afghanistan and Iraq should not be denied the heroes’ welcome they deserve in order to placate the political wing of a terrorist organisation.

“And how telling that when asked if this could jeopardize the DUP’s partnership with Sinn Fein/IRA last night all the joint First Minister could do was dodge the question. Championing the cause of the homecoming parade sits very uncomfortably with sharing power with those who protest against it.”
