“Sinn Fein thinks better of defending its buddy in government”, laughs Allister

01 October 2008

Statement by TUV MEP Jim Allister:-

“On Tuesday morning, 30 September 2008, I issued a statement condemning the Stormont Executive for failing to send a Minister to an open week for the regions in Brussels and pointing out that Ministers Wilson and Foster had declined invitations. Within a few hours Sinn Fein issued a statement by Ms de Brun MEP* attacking me for attacking the DUP and the Executive. Strange how touchy Sinn Fein, despite all their sparring, is about their government partner.

Then an hour later Sinn Fein had second thoughts and withdrew their statement of defence of the DUP. What a laugh! Maybe Sinn Fein would like to explain its somersaulting!”

Allister criticism motivated by pettiness – de Brún

Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has criticised Traditional Unionist Voice MEP Jim Allister for his continued focus on irrelevant, petty anti-DUP and anti-republican motivated ramblings.

Ms de Brún said,
"Once again we hear Jim Allister engaging in tunnel vision attacks on the institutions in the North of Ireland.

"Jim Allister fixation on attacking his one time DUP colleagues is a disservice to the people who elected him work. It offers nothing constructive.

"I believe that the Executive's commitment to Europe is clear for all to see, certainly from my own perspective and that of my party we continue to engage at all levels in order to co-ordinate our effective approach to Europe in order to deliver for all citizens.

"It's a pity for people across the North that Jim Allister appears to be spending more time publishing negative press statements and writing letters to executive Ministers."
