It's time to bury Belfast Agreement devolution - Allister

01 October 2008

Speaking at a meeting in Burnside Orange Hall, Antrim Traditional Unionist Voice Leader Jim Allister MEP said, following renewed belligerence from Sinn Fein, it was time for Peter Robinson to deliver on his promise of “serious consequences”.

“It’s time for the DUP to face up to the patently obvious reality that mandatory coalition had failed, that Sinn Fein has no interest in “good government” and that the manifesto pledge of “putting manners on republicans” is now a feeble joke.
The shambles at Stormont can’t continue and the proper way to end it is to ditch Sinn Fein as government partners and the system which ever let them into government and gave them the veto with which they have wreaked such havoc. Whether its been through the ignominy of the chuckle era, or the paralysis of the past several months, Belfast Agreement devolution has failed again and should be swiftly buried, never to rise again.”
