Allister Blasts Donaldson on Kelly peace role
24 September 2008
Traditional Unionist Jim Allister has rounded on DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson for jointly receiving the Peace Dove Award with Gerry Kelly.
Commenting the MEP said:
“All the DUP’s bluster and mock outrage at Monday night’s BBC documentary were exposed as so much hot air when today Jeffrey Donaldson shared the Peace Dove Award with Gerry Kelly. It is hard to imagine a greater example of nauseating hypocrisy than a party criticizing Kelly for his lack of remorse for his terrorist role on Tuesday, and sharing a peace award with him on Wednesday.
“Shame on Jeffrey Donaldson for allowing Kelly to be lauded as a man of peace when it is evident that he does not feel one scintilla of remorse for his past in the murderous IRA! Monday night’s programme showed Kelly chuckling while recalling how he shot a prison officer at pointblank range in the head. Yet today Jeffery Donaldson shares a platform with this arch-hypocrite while he talks about children playing together and families living side by side. What about the families destroyed by IRA violence? What about the children left orphaned by Republican bombings and shooting? What about the parents left childless by the campaign in which Kelly played a part and remains unrepentant about?
“These are questions which do not seem to bother Mr Donaldson as he swans about in the United States with the Maze escapee. The DUP claim that they have forced Sinn Fein to change into a democratic party. The reality is that by forming an alliance with the incarnation of evil in politics they have now moved to a support role as IRA/Sinn Fein spout hollow words of peace, while all the time their hands still drip with the blood of the innocent.”
