MEP comments on public enquiry calls

19 September 2008

Jim Allister MEP comments on recent calls for a public enquiry into Rose Energy planning application:

“I regret that a number of elected representatives, in pursuit of popular acclaim have voiced their support to calls for a public enquiry into the Rose Energy Planning application in recent days, needless to say, I am not one of them. I reiterate my firm belief that this £100m project is a must in safeguarding the future sustainability of the local poultry sector.”

“Bad enough that Lisburn Councillors Jim Dillon UUP (a farmer himself), and Jenny Palmer, DUP played to the public gallery in proposing and seconding a Council motion for a public enquiry. Now that Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew has finally declared her support for a public enquiry demonstrates her commitment to Party before the local agricultural industry of which she claims to be a champion.”

“Be under no illusions…the ploy of a public enquiry is a device to delay the Rose Energy Project so that it becomes unobtainable.”
