Allister welcomes delay in EU Commission vote

25 March 2004

Reacting to the withdrawal of the delay in the vote on the new European Commission, DUP MEP Jim Allister said, “As a Euro sceptic, I welcome the confusion which has broken out amongst the ranks of the Europhiles.  I must insist, however, that this issue can not merely be resolved by the re-jigging of furniture.  This is proposed Commission president’s Jose Manuel Barroso mess and since he has failed so spectacularly, he must resign.  As an opponent of the new Constitution, it is pleasing that Friday’s signing ceremony now changes from a celebration to a crisis.  This entire matter proves just how unworkable this whole European experiment really is”.
