DUP spinning in contradictory circles – Allister

01 September 2008

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister MEP:-

"For months the DUP scriptwriters in DUP HQ have been spinning that without devolution we would have an Irish Language Act imposed by Westminster. This scare tactic has been used time and time again to attack and villify those of us who dare to question the morality and politics of being in government with IRA/Sinn Fein. Moreover, it was one of the favourite figleaves to cover the volte face of March 2007.

“Yet, amazingly, in today's Guardian I read no less than Jeffrey Donaldson MP MLA in telling us, "Even if devolution collapsed in the morning and we were back living under direct rule from London, the DUP is convinced there would be no Irish Language Act through Westminster."

“Patently, the DUP does not even believe its own propaganda about the ILA! With every day that passes Belfast Agreement devolution and its prime proponent is seen as an Emperor with no clothes."
