Allister answers Weir's fatuous ramblings

27 August 2008

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister MEP:-

"If there was a medal for disingenuous invention in politics, then the scriptwriters at DUP HQ would be bedecked in gold.

Perhaps it is my limited intellect, but frankly I don't understand the latest outburst in the name of Peter Weir - ever notice how the UUP converts, like Simon Hamilton, Jeffrey Donaldson and Peter Weir, are put up as the attack merchants? Perhaps, its part of the ritual of proving themselves!

How anyone could twist anything I have said about policing and justice as either Republican propaganda or support or sympathy for Sinn Fein, is beyond comprehension. My position is crystal clear: I don't want policing and justice ever coming to this Executive, because of the control over the judiciary which it would bestow on McGuinness. So I'm delighted, not disappointed, that the Executive is in turmoil over this issue.

I suspect what has refuelled the poisoned pens in Dundela is my observation of yesterday that the fact Peter Robinson had to issue such a statement is confirmation both that the DUP made a gross misjudgement in going into government with IRA/Sinn Fein and that mandatory coalition has demonstrably failed and should now be abandoned.

For someone whose "specious arguments are fooling nobody", I certainly seem to require a lot of response from Party HQ, no matter how pitiful and fallacious those responses might be."
