Use of IRA Semtex Raises Serious Questions - Allister

19 August 2008

Statement by Traditional Unionist Leader, Jim Allister MEP

"Confirmation that Semtex was used in the abortive but potentially murderous attack in Lisnaskea raises fundamental questions about both the completeness of alleged IRA decommissioning and the collaborative nexus between the Provos and dissident republicans.

“The people of Northern Ireland were assured the IRA had destroyed its Semtex, yet here it turns up ready to murder policemen in Lisnaskea. How can this be? Perhaps Father Reid, Rev Good or Martin McGuinness would like to explain. I have never been convinced that what passes as dissident republicanism operates in a vacuum. We have been reminded how IRA/Sinn Fein protected the Real IRA operatives by refusing to advise the public to help the police after the Omagh atrocity.”
