Crossnacreevy blunder could hit agri budget
03 July 2008
Traditional Unionist MEP Jim Allister has said the gross overvaluation of DARD owned lands at Crossnacreevy has the potential to put DARD’s budget under considerable pressure in coming months and years.
The MEP said,
“According to recent correspondence I have in my possession, to date, no discussions have taken place between DARD and DFP about possible budgetary ramifications for the agriculture budget in light of recent developments. However, DFP is planning to carry out a strategic stocktake of the Budget this Autumn, and no doubt DARD will be involved as part of that process.”
“DARD secured an advance of £90 million from the Central pot, on the expectation that Crossnacreevy lands could realise up to £200 million. On the basis that these lands have been re-valued at £6 million, I fear considerable pressure may be brought to bear on the local agriculture budget.”
